grocery retailers worldwide continue to set for the rest of the industry. And, as we blogged about last October, tecnology’s role in the effort to reduce food wastage globally is continually growing. In retail, dynamic pricing is being implemented by grocers to strategically price perishable items throughout the day, to encourage shoppers to purchase those items. In our experience, we’ve found retailers that decrease pricing by 1% throughout the day, see an increase in sales of 2.62% on average. To further reduce their environmental impact, retailers are using digital signage like ESLs to display the pricing changes instead of traditional paper tags, allowing for a more flexible pricing strategy without excess waste.
Traditionally, the convenience store has primarily served as quick stop for gas on the way to work or on a road trip. In recent years, however, a number of convenience stores, from the small mom-and-pop shop to the mega travel centers, have added a number of merchandise offerings, including grab-and-go food, adult beverages, toiletries and even yard-art. Today’s consumers are taking advantage of these offerings as they’re stretched for time as they run between work, children’s activities, networking commitments and home.
And so, another successful NRF Big Show is in the books! This year’s conference hosted over 33,500 attendees previewing the latest in retail technology and innovative ideas. From our perspective, the main themes of the show seem to revolve around digital innovations and most importantly, making the customer the focus.
